I had a conversation with a friend yesterday and I was telling her how I sometimes feel like I am just going through the motions of this holiday season.
She said one phrase, “Be present.”
She is so right! She reminded me of the importance of focusing on one task at a time. Whether it be my family, work or a project around my home it’s important to be fully present in that moment.
Many of us feel constant pressure to be omnipresent and constantly connected to work, social media, news and other non-priorities. This simply is just not effective or productive.
Debunking the myth that multitasking is an admirable quality is important for one simple reason: our brains aren’t built for it. I recently found this great article on the science why we shouldn’t multitask, The Truth About Multitasking: How Your Brain Processes Information
So what to do? Well I am going back to using our Timer Method. I love this technique as it keeps me focused on one task at a time, keeps me going from task to task with little distraction and I feel super productive when that timer “Dings!”
